Robot Sensor Lesson Ideas
Lesson Idea #1: Getting to a Target Destination
Teacher: Record a message that says “Good job!” or “You have arrived.”
Ask students to navigate the Bee-Bot or Blue-Bot to a specific destination.
See their reaction when they hear the message.
Lesson Idea #2: Recording a Message
Show students how to record a message.
Give them time to practice doing this.
Where is the best place to place your mouth to make the recording?
How loud should you speak?
What other sounds might be appropriate?
Lesson Idea #3: Customizing the Message
Invite students to create their own challenge and record their own message.
Ask students why they chose that challenge and message?
What other messages might be appropriate?
Lesson Idea #4: Using Multiple Robot Sensors
Have students create a challenge that uses more than one sensor.
Can the Bee-Bot or Blue-Bot go from one sensor to the next?
What message should the Robot Sensor play at each stop?
Lesson Idea #5: Invent a Game
Have students create a game that uses the robot sensor.
Do they know that when Bee-Bots and Blue-Bots get near another one, they can play a recording? See details below.
How can they use this feature to invent a game?
Perhaps they can play a game of Tag!
How to make a recording that will play when two Bee-Bots or Blue-Bots are near each other. Bee-Bot will recognise another Bee-Bot or Blue-Bot when passing by within a distance of approximately 25cm (about 10 inches).
- Turn on all three swithes at the bottom of the robot. (If there are only two switches, then you don’t have a “See & Say” robot and this function will not work.)
- To make a recording, hold down the GO button for 2 seconds until you hear a beep.
- Record your sound. You will hear a double beep when the recording time has ended.
- To clear the recording, press and hold the Clear button for 2 seconds.
- Your sound will play every 5 seconds while the ‘bots are close to each other.
If you don’t make your own recording, the ‘bot will play a default sound.
