Go, Logo!: Logo and Math for Middle School
Go, Logo!

Terrapin announces the publication of Go, Logo! Go, Logo! and Go, Logo! Solutions, the companion teacher manual, offer a complete course in Logo programming with a strong emphasis on mathematics. Go, Logo! is targeted at middle school students but also works well with gifted upper elementary school students and for catch up high school work.

Go, Logo! works in a traditional classroom, for homeschooling, or in a tutoring situation. It weaves together narrative instruction with practice, exercises, and computations in workbook form. Go, Logo! provides a comprehensive course in computer programming concepts and a "how to" on Logo programming while introducing and reinforcing math and geometry skills. Go, Logo! Solutions , which contains all of the answers to the exercises in the student book, is the instructor's companion when using Go, Logo! .

Author Marla Weiss developed Go, Logo! over the course of eight years as a middle school math teacher. She will discuss Go, Logo! in the Terrapin booth at NECC and will present it at a poster session at NECC. (See story below.)

Bee-Bot Leads Story Time at Meadowbrook School
A Meadowbrook student tells her story.

Meadowbrook School , a coeducational K-8 day school in Weston, MA, uses Bee-Bots extensively in the lower grades where they have proven to be a great tool for story time and language arts. Using Bee-Bot mats as a setting, first-grade students develop a story utilizing vocabulary words and then tell their story by navigating Bee-Bot. In second grade, students draw their own Bee-Bot mats in art class while writing stories about them. They then tell their story to their classmates as Bee-Bot traverses the mat to illustrate the narrative.

According to Dotty Corbiere , primary and lower school mathematics coordinator at Meadowbrook, Bee-Bots are fun and motivational for the students and have enlivened their lessons. She notes that "Bee-Bots have been a highlight of 28 years of teaching!"

Come Say Hello to Terrapin at NECC

Terrapin will exhibit in Booth # 3714 at the 30th annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) to be held June 28 - July 2 in Washington, DC. If you are attending, come by and say hello to Terrapin's representatives and take a look at Terrapin products. Command Bee-Bot and Pro-Bot robots. Try Terrapin Logo , Crystal Rain Forest , or Focus on Bee-Bot software. Peruse the Logo books and curriculum .

Terrapin will present several new products at NECC, including Bee-Bot Lessons , Bee-Bot Card Mat , and Go, Logo! student and teacher text and workbooks. Marla Weiss, author of Go, Logo! , will be in the booth to show and sign her new book. She will also present Go, Logo! at a conference poster session on Wednesday, July 1 from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

    CSTA White Paper
    The Computer Science Teachers Association is seeking comments on its draft white paper Level I Objectives and Outlines which presents learning objectives and sample activities for K-8 computer science. The goal of the white paper is to identify and establish underlying computer science principles and concepts to be taught in grades K-8 so teachers may present computer science in a way that is age-appropriate, engaging, and sets students on a path towards a lifetime of healthy interaction with technology. Your feedback is requested about the viability and appropriateness of the objectives and activities outlined in this draft.
