Tuff-Bots are riding on the STEAM Bus—a school bus renovated into a mobile classroom and hands-on learning lab operated by the WSWHE Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in upstate New York. The STEAM Bus travels to 31 school districts across the region, bringing STEAM activities directly to students.
The STEAM Bus is equipped with a variety of experiential learning tools that spark creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Among the most popular activities are those featuring Tuff-Bots, the durable, screen-free robots designed for exploration and coding play, especially outdoors.
“Students love creating paths with chalk and seeing if they can code Tuff-Bot to follow their lines,” says Laurie Guyon, Lead Coordinator for IT Programs. “Through careful calculations and many iterations, students learn to break down complex problems. Whether it’s an obstacle course, an environment exploration, or even simple obstacle avoidance activities, Tuff-Bots foster programming skills in an inventive and exciting way.”
Wherever the STEAM Bus stops, Tuff-Bots are helping students code, explore, and problem-solve—one engaging challenge at a time. Away from the bus stop? Try your hand at coding a virtual Tuff-Bot with the Tuff-Bot Online Emulator.
